Mystery Photo for November-December 2002
The present Mystery Photo for November December was
enlarged up from a scene on a postcard.
Thanks to Bob Kensiton for the answer. He also told us that this was near the Cocoa House that was in the September - October issue. We could not find any to tell us anything about the Blair Photo Studio in the photo. If you know, please let us know and we will use it as an update.
Mystery Photo for September-October 2002
The Mystery Photo from the September - October issue is of the Cocoa House (also known as the Cocoa Hotel). It was built in 1900 and owned and operated by Mr. E. Grimes. It was on the corner Brevard Ave. and Willard St, where Sun Trust bank is now.
Mystery Photo for July-August 2002
Bob Kenaston called us on July 5th to let us know that the picture is of the Knox Hotel at one time owned by Tony Ninos. It waas at the northwest corner of Willard street and Brevard avenue.
John D'Albora called July 9th to say "The mystery photo is as it says on the sign says between the 2nd and 3rd floor it was the new Knox hotel, it use to be known as the old Knox hotel. It was owned by Tony Ninos before he bought the Brevard Hotel. If you look on the front right hand corner of the picture you will see a set of steps and a little peaked roof, that led into the Seminole Lounge which was quite a watering hole. It was torn down about 35 or 40 years ago and is now an office building on the northeast corner which Selig? and his partner has their offices in."
Mystery Photo for May & June 2002
Thank you to John D’Albora and Bob Kenaston who knew that the building the last issue of the paper was Wooten Ford. The Ford dealership was on Brevard Ave. near 520, where C & S Imports and Mama D’s is now. I was told that it is believed that the trucks in the photo were purchased to transport fruit to the north because that was a year that the rail rates were raised to a point that the local growers thought it cheaper to transport the fruit themselves. (Can some one confirm this for us?)
Mystery Photo for March & April 2002
I should have known that with the Mosquito Beaters in town back in March that last issues Mystery Photo wasn’t much of a mystery to some of them. I had lots of calls, some people only knew one or two of the people in the photo, and others knew most of them. The building was built around 1952 by the Central Brevard Humane Society so there would be a veterinarian in the area. The people in the picture were part of a group that organized this project. The names as I have been given them, going left to right are: Loretta Valentine, Betty (no one could remember her last name), Nora Hildrith, Mage Allen, Emily Van Alstyne, Bob Parks, and Marie Clark. As a side note, I was told that Marie Clark sang at Dr. Braxton’s wedding. Also, Dr. Braxton served on the Cocoa City Council, although no one could remember for how many years.
Mystery Photo for January & February 2002

The church in the photo is St. Mark’s Church in the early 1900’s. Mr. Trafford did call to say that this photo was a little harder to figure out than some of the others. (For those who don’t know, Mr. Trafford grew up in this area.)
We had another caller who told us that the supplies for the church were brought to Cocoa by barge.
